DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU DID IT BEFORE WITH EXPERT HELP - eg.
Reinhard Beck or Juergen Ahrens.
To evacuate the tagger, there are two pumping-devices available. One
of them
is
located between the last beamline valve, named {\sf SFA2PLVE09} and
the
box with the radiators in it, the other one is located at the end of
the
tagger-ladder, near to the concrete-wall. To switch on the pumps, you
have
to follow the following plan:
Close the big shutter-valve by turning its handle clockwise, if it is
not yet closed.
Switch on the prepump, called {\em Vorpumpe}, by pressing the
on-button labeled {\sf V}.
Slowly open the shutter-valve, by turning its handle counter
clockwise.
Switch on the Penning-Tubes or other pressure guages that are
installed and wait until the vacuum is below $10^{-2}$~Torr.
Switch on the Turbopump by pressing the on-button labeled {\sf T}.
Watch it driving up on its powersupply. Normally, you should also hear
a whistling sound with increasing frequency.
Do this for both pumping-devices. On the pumping-device near to the
beamline-valve, there is an amperemeter. Switch it on and check if
the
needle is below the red line-marker. Use the range of 100$\,\mu$A,
that is
marked with a black penline. You are not allowed to open the beamline-valve
before the black needle is below the red line-marker.
The pumping process can take some hours. At least sometimes one day.
So, the
vacuum-pumping on the tagger has to be started very early.
At the end of the beamtime, if you want to switch off the pumping-devices,
proceed as follows(if you are uncertain leave it to an expert!):
Close the shutter-valve by turning its handle clockwise.
switch off the turbopump by pressing the red button below the button
labeled {\sf T}.
switch off the prepump by pressing the red button below the button
labeled {\sf V}.
You could now flood carefully the turbopump with air, which is still
on speed by opening the small bypass-valve of it. But better keep your
hands off, if nobody ever showed it to you.
Never forget to keep the shutter-valve closed, when switching
on/off the prepumps, or oil could contaminate the tagger interior.
