The physics department at Glasgow has excellent facilites, and particularly impressive is the quality of the teaching; the lecturers seems to recognise that the undergraduate students are an investment. The small size of the undergraduate classes help in this respect, though the department is anything but small in terms of the diversity and quality of its research, as is borne out by the number of graduates who stay on to do PhD here.

Glasgow also has a strong tradition of allowing undergraduates to participate in research work through paid summer placements within the department; I spent ten weeks working with gravitational wave detectors, which included a visit to the site of a laser-based gravitational wave observatory in Germany.
