Final-year student in Physics & Astronomy 2003/04
Hi, I am currently in 3rd year at Glasgow University studying for an MSci in Physics and Astronomy. I originally intended on studying Maths and Physics to Honours level until my 2 years studying Astronomy made me realise I wanted to pursue the Astronomy further. One of the main reasons for this decision was the experience I gained from carrying out a cosmology summer scholarship project last year. This involved analysis of the recently published 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey data.
The lectures and lab work at undergraduate level give an excellent grounding in the theoretical aspects of the subjects being studied. However, I found working on a research project allowed me a chance to see first hand what postgraduate research would be like. It also provides a link between the theory that I am studying and how that theory is implemented at the forefront of astronomical research.
I hope to continue my career in Astronomy after graduating by studying for a PhD.
