The Glasgow Ethos

Choice and flexibility are key to the degree structure at the University of Glasgow. For example, in your first year you might choose modules in Physics, Maths and Computing Science. This retains the option of Honours Degrees in Physics, Maths, Physics & Maths, Physics & Applied Maths, Computing Science, Maths & Computing Science or Applied Maths & Computing Science.
Frontiers in Physics
an optional first-year module about cutting-edge research and its impact on the world around us

The Honours B.Sc. takes four years, the M.Sci. takes four or five years. The first two years of M.Sci. courses are the same as those of B.Sc. courses, which enables you to determine your own capabilities and interests before making the final choice between these options at the end of the second year.

In your third, fourth and fifth years, you take core modules supplemented by options enabling you to follow your particular areas of interest. In your final year, you will do an individually supervised project, working at the cutting edge of international research. All courses include training in transferable skills such as teamwork, presentation and technical writing. The M.Sci. has additional advanced courses and a more extensive project. Opportunities usually exist for summer placements, often with remuneration, in research or industrial laboratories.
