Bring your Children to Work Day


WHEN: Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

WHERE: Kelvin Building

WHAT: Visit parents at work, socialise with other children, participate in chid-friendly tours and/or activities

WHY: For those of you planning to bring their child/ren to work during the school holidays, this is a good opportunity to meet other children and parents.

Lunch: Child-friendly food will be provided by the School, at 12:00-13:00 in the Common Room, which will be booked for the occasion.

Proposed activities (depending on age range and numbers attending):

  • Guided tour* of the ScotGrid computing farm (Sam Skipsey) - see the equivalent of 8000 iPads in action! (10:20)
  • K’NEX challenge (Dwayne Spiteri) - for all ages and skill levels! (Common Room 11:00 - 12:00)
  • Imaging the Invisible (Caroline Muellenbroich & Laura Cowan) - hands on activities for children to explore thermal imaging and light microscopy with give-away clip on lenses to turn your mobile phone into a microscope! (Common Room, 12:00 - 13:00)
  • Guided tour* of the IGR LISA lab (David Robertson) - discover how satellites are built! (13:30)

*Tours will start from the Common Room, times may change. Please revisit this page on the day of the event for precise details.

Parents will have to supervise their own children throughout the day.
