BIOGRAPHY

Niclas Westerberg was born 1992 in Vollsjö in Sweden. He obtained an International Baccalaureate diploma from Katedralskolan, Lund in 2010 after which he pursued further Mathematics studies at Lund University in Sweden. During this pursuit he also worked as a Nuclear Physics Operator at MAX-LAB, Lund University where he got experience in accelerator and nuclear physics research. Between 2011 and 2014, he studied for a Bachelors of Science in Mathematical Physics at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, which he completed with Honours of the First Class. On his spare time during his BSc, he got in contact with Prof. Daniele Faccio and started as a Research Assistant in the Extreme Light group, exploring analogue gravity and nonlinear optics. In 2014, he commenced a Master of Science in Theoretical Physics at the Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics at University of Edinburgh, which he completed with Distinction in 2015. For his Masters dissertation, Niclas calculated spacetimes from the classical limit of the Einstein quantum gravity path integral under the supervision of Dr D O'Connell, for which he was awarded the Walter and Norma Nimmo Prize. In autumn 2015, he then re-joined the Extreme Light group and joined the Quantum Optics and Cold Atoms group of Heriot-Watt University as a doctoral student in the Condensed Matter Centre for Doctroral Training.
