BIOGRAPHY

Kevin Mitchell is a Postdoctoral Research Associate within the Extreme Light group, working on AI-assisted Radar imaging for security and surveillance in partnership with the QuantIC Imaging Hub. In his work he has continued the development of radar-based 3D imaging systems and investigating 3D radar metal detection. He has recently accepted the role of primary investigator for a collaboration with the US Navy Research Lab, which will involve designing, building, and testing a SPAD-based Quantum light-field Camera to see through obscurants. Kevin began his university career by undertaking a 5 year MSci Physics, which he graduated with 1st class honours. During this undergraduate degree, Kevin took on 5 projects in the field of optics, including Holography, single pixel cameras/microscopy and multimode fibre imaging. His thesis Laser beam shaping: properties and applications centres on the use of spatial light modulators (SLMs) to structure laser light for various biomedical/comms applications. His final PhD project classically demonstrated the group velocity delay of structured light using tandem SLMs.
